Prior to engaging in the process of alcohol distillation please check applicable federal, state and local laws. Most jurisdictions require special permits for the manufacture of an alcohol product.

Home distillation is a simple process by which you can purify water, distill alcohol, manufacture antiseptics or produce fuel grade ethanol. There are several different types of distillation methods available, depending on your specific needs – basic pot stills, reflux stills and the more advanced fractionating stills.

All of our custom made stills are designed as fractionating stills and are capable of producing extremely high quality output by utilizing internal packing that condenses vapor and and prevents impurities from reaching the final product.

We’ve chosen copper as our base metal for our premier units, as it has the unique quality of attracting, and thus filtering, fusel oils and contaminents out of not only ethanol, but water. With copper you’ll be able to obtain the purest output possible without industrial manufacturing processes. That means you’ll be capable of producing pure distilled water and alcohol grades that far exceed traditional home distillation using just pot or reflux stills. Our 100% copper units will produce antiseptic grade (62% or 124 proof) and fuel grade ethanol (94% or 188 proof) distillate output.

Distillation units by Reed can be used with a variety of heat sources including wood, coal, propane and an electric stove. Our manufacturing process and use of high quality materials means that our copper units can endure sustained heat of up to 1000°C.

100% Copper

Our premier home distillation fractionators are manufactured with 100% copper components that are critical to optimum functioning of the unit. Copper is without a doubt the highest grade metal that should be used for serious distillation needs. With 100% copper you can be assured that the process of distillation will be pure enough to produce clean water, aniseptics, alcohol and fuel grade ethanol. Alcohol content of 94% (188 proof) can be achieved with a 100% copper distillation fractionator*.

A Little Bit About Us

Terry Reed is the owner and operator of LNL Protekt, LLC, based out of Alvin, TX and Woodville, TX. With over 30 years experience in land and livestock protection, we serve land and business owners in and around the Gulf Coast and East Texas areas.

In addition to having grown up in rural America, where he developed and honed the skills he now brings to the land and livestock protection industry, Terry has a background in Engineering/Design of Refineries and Chemical plants, as well as water treatment facilties and other heavy industrial units that have complex process piping systems.

If you’re looking for hand made American production and quality then you’ve come to the right place.

Manufacturing Process

We pride ourselves on quality manufacturing. That’s why we custom make every unit by hand utilizing a number of techniques, namely , gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. This means that the only way our home distillation units will melt or fall apart is if you somehow manage to acquire a heat source that exceeds 1000°C.

You’ve seen the pictures of our manufactured still above, now take a look inside. Click here to view our fractionator schematic.

While our primary product offerings include distillation models produced from copper, we have the ability to utilize a number of different alloys to meet your specific needs. Higher capacity distillation units made to order are also available. Please send us an inquiry if you are interested in a personalized, custom made distillation unit.

Alcohol Output

The output (distillate) of your distillation unit will depend on the goals you are attempting to achieve. As an example, we’ll use our 6 gallon unit.

On top of the boiler is a bolt-fastened tube tower (column) which has a diameter of 1.375 inches and is over 30 inches tall. This is an optimal diameter/height ratio which is required for proper filtering of contaminants. When filled with 6 gallons of wash (stock) you  can achieve approximately 0.75 liter of 90%+ ethanol.

If you do not require a high grade ethanol, adjustments to your distillation process make it possible to lower the alcohol content of the distillate. The lower the alcohol content, the more “watered down” your distillate will be, which means the overall alcohol content will be lower, and you’ll produce more finished product.

Our Guarantee

Home Distillation Units by Reed carry our exclusive guarantee. As owner Terry Reed puts it, our products are “guaranteed for your lifetime, or mine.”

If you have any questions or comments we welcome your input. Most issues you may come across can be resolved with a little bit of support from us. So please email us if you need any assistance.

If your home distillation unit experiences a manufacturing failure we will assist you in getting it fixed. If that means having to pay the shipping to have it sent back to us for repair or replacement, then that’s what we’ll do.

How to Home Distill

Home distillation requires a bit of research and understanding of the processes involved. Getting started may seem intimidating for novice distillers, but really it’s pretty simple to do, especially if you’ve got a good home distillation unit and an easy to use resource guide.

We’ll include instructions when you receive your new home distillation unit, and highly recommend HomeDistiller.org for everything you need to know about getting started with home distillation including frequently asked questions for new distillers and Steps to Distilling.
